Opportunities for Graduate Studies

 

With the ever-increasing need to understand the geochemical and biological processes that continue to shape our planet, there has never been a more exciting time to pursue graduate studies in geochemistry. Research in our group is focused on a wide variety of biological and inorganic earth processes that have direct relevance to environmental contamination, formation of biological minerals, weathering, ocean chemistry and paleonenvironmental signals. New projects are developed in collaboration with interests and strengths and goals of the incoming graduate student. During Fall of the first year, students can expect to begin thinking about their research and Ph.D. students are strongly encouraged to develop the first stages of a project as the basis for their proposal to the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program. 

The graduate students in Dove's group have received many recognitions for their excellence in research including the MSA Best Paper, MRS Gold Award, a NSF Graduate Fellowship, NSF Fellowship Honorable Mentions, Sigma Xi Best Masters Thesis, and AGU Outstanding Student Paper Award. Most recently, Dongbo Wang was awarded the MSA Mineralogy/Petrology Research Grant and Laura Hamm received a NSF Graduate Research Fellowship. Upon graduation with their M.S. or Ph.D. degree, they have found geochemistry offers terrific career opportunities in University faculty positions, science and management positions in the Oil/gas Industries, Environmental Consulting, and as research scientists in the Nation's National Laboratories.
