bgep Laboratory Complex

The bgep research facility is a five-room complex of laboratories and office located in 5081 Derring Hall.  This is a terrific new space is on the top floor of the building with several big windows and an access out onto a porch. When you come to visit, expect a busy place that looks different from these pictures taken during our new lab open house in 2003.

This image shows a portion of one of the main laboratories where we prepare and characterize the solutions used in the crystal growth, nucleation, and dissolution experiments.

Here is Darren Wilson in the AFM lab making small adjustments to the position of the laser of the Atomic Force Microscope using the down-axis camera.  The AFM lab adjoins another smaller laboratory that is another clean space for setting up and running the nucleation experiments.

The other larger laboratory in our complex contains several reactors, large incubators, refrigerators, and the HEPA filtered biological safety cabinet.  In this image, Trish is explaining some of our research that uses these resources to VT leaders.

The porch is a great place to get some fresh air during a busy week.  With the many nice days that we have in Blacksburg, the tables, chairs and grill come in handy.
