Brief
Resesearch Description: My research interests are in the
interactions between organic/bio-molecules and inorganic minerals,
especially the catalytic effects of iron-oxide minerals (e.g., hematite,
goethite, and ferrihydrite) on the transformation of the structures
of organic/bio-molecules. I am studying the abiotic degradation
of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) in the presence of iron-oxide
minerals and the influences of size, morphology, and defects of
minerals on the redox reaction. We hope to extend this study to
the abiotic CO2 production, carbon isotopic
fractionation, bioavailability of organics/metals, and mineral dissolution
in surface environments of the Earth.
